Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Dennis Hopson’s love affair with basketball began in his High School. He attended Bowsher High School, where his exceptional skills quickly gained attention and set the stage for an illustrious basketball career. During his time at Bowsher, Hopson displayed remarkable scoring prowess, setting records and earning accolades as one of the top high school players in the state.

Ohio State’s All-Time Leading Scorer

After a stellar high school career, Hopson’s journey continued at The Ohio State University, where he cemented his status as one of the program’s all-time greats. As a Buckeye, he showcased his scoring ability and versatile skills on the court. Notably, Hopson became Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer, a record that stood for many years. His time at Ohio State helped him refine his game, preparing him for the next level of competition.

NBA Success and Championship Glory

Dennis Hopson’s talents led him to the 1987 NBA Draft, where he was selected as the third overall pick by the New Jersey Nets. He made an immediate impact in the NBA, demonstrating his scoring ability and defensive prowess. However, it was his time with the Chicago Bulls that etched his name in NBA history. As a vital member of the Bulls’ roster, Hopson played a crucial role in helping the team secure the NBA Championship in the 1990-1991 season. Since 2019, Hopson has been the head coach of Lourdes College’s men’s basketball team, where he continues to make a positive impact on the lives of his players both on and off the court. Hopson’s 2021-2022 they tied for third in the WHAC regular season standings before capturing the WHAC tournament title, its first in program history.  The Gray Wolves advanced to the NAIA National Championships, falling on a buzzer-beater in the first round. His leadership has revitalized the program, resulting in an impressive 53-25 record under his guidance.

In addition to his role as a college coach, Dennis Hopson remains actively involved in nurturing young talent through his Hopson Elite AAU team. As the head of the organization, he dedicates his time to developing young athletes, providing them with valuable skills, and instilling in them the values of hard work and dedication.
